But Oh! The Stars with Music Shine! ~ Thursday September 7th 9pm in Orkney Theatre, Kirkwall, Orkney
Orkney International Science Festival presents the series of 5 works by McGuire inspired by astrophysics that grow in instrumentation, from solo trumpet to symphonic brass ensemble. The Festival writes:

"Scottish composer Eddie McGuire's five astronomy-inspired pieces of music have never been played as a complete series. Tonight, to celebrate his 75th birthday, you can hear them together, introduced by astronomer Dr Anne-Marie Weijmans of St Andrews University. The music comes in three films specially recorded by musicians from the University, including trumpter Bede Williams and members of the Wallace Collection. First comes the film Five Stars in Auriga featuring The Big Bang (solo trumpet), Orbit (trumpet duo), and Five Stars in Auriga (brass quintet) where each instrument represents a star in the constellation. The pieces of music are interwoven with stories from the Scottish Borders of lives connected by astronpmy and space - telescope maker James Veitch, astronomer and mathematician Michael Scott, scientist Mary Somerville, writers Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan. Then after a short break come Earthrise (a symphonic poem for brass band) and Symphonies of Galaxies. On the Saturday evening of the festival you can hear Eddie McGuire himself, along with Bede Williams, in conversation with Dr Anne-Marie Weijmans, director of post-graduate studies in the School of Physics and Astronomy at St Andrews University.  See the video on OISF You Tube channel: https://youtu.be/bWengW6201Q?si=GFGk6gMB4vaE-pxw
